I founded One Grand Home because of my deep belief that imagination and a keen eye are key to a beautiful home and that a slim budget can evoke the very best personal creativity. For that reason, I have committed to featuring only products and projects costing less than $1,000. I aim to distill the best of design through the filter of affordability and offer project ideas, sale alerts, super-cheap values, giveaways, rants, tips, tweets and details of how my own home is evolving.
Where you will find this work different than a ‘cheap and cheerful’ blog is in its aim to recognize, validate and hopefully engage with people creating, decorating, and crafting using modest economic means. In other words, I explicitly reject the notion that domestic creativity trickles down from the elite or the luxe to the masses and am most interested in the way people working with less create and beautify. Though this is not a politics blog in terms of Republicans vs. Democrats(and never will be), I will highlight the work of underrepresented peoples and raise thorny questions about issues of justice in the world of design, art and commerce.
Just like my domestic space, this blog has, and will, evolve. While my intellectual program was not always so explicit, it was always written on my heart. Recent events have helped me in finding my voice and I hope many of you will stay to listen and engage.
I value your questions and I love your comments.
