Hotness or Hot Mess? #4

December 9, 2009 by Alexis L.

via Regretsy.com

Yes, we are going ‘meta’ and judging the judgers. Regretsy rounds up and lampoons some of the worst Etsy.com offerings. With the tagline, “Handmade? It looks like you made it with your feet.”, you can expect this group to land some really hard punches and let’s just say that posts about misspelled decals are just the start of the snarkitude.

So what do you think–All in good fun or exactly what’s wrong with the Internet? I’m ambivalent. On the one hand, there are few things I like more than a good laugh (those few things are marble backsplashes, Jielde lamps and chevron pattern herringbone floors but I digress). And yes, I do get tired of the endless hyping and happiness of craftyland but I am also weary of people who produce nothing and who denounce everything.

In the end, snark and sniping are easy and I’m not sure I can get behind a website dedicated to the takedown of small artisans and crafters. On the other hand, there are chuckles to be had. But what do you think of Regretsy?
